Design of the 2023 1/10 Ounce Gold Kookaburra Coin
The 2023 gold Kookaburra coin features a portrait image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the front. Due to the Queen’s passing, this will be the last year the Her Majesty’s portrait appears on the coin. Encircling the Queen’s portrait are the words ‘Elizabeth II’ and ‘Australia, as well as the coin’s face value of $15 AUD.
The reverse side of the coin features an image of two Kookaburra birds perched upon adjacent branches. The coin’s weight, purity, metal type and year also appear on the reverse of the coin. The image of the Kookaburra is updated each year on the coin, while the front image on the coin remains the same.
About the Kookaburra Series
The Kookaburra series was launched by the Perth Mint in 1990. Initially the series was launched in silver, and the Kookaburra coin was available in a range of sizes, including 1 ounce, 10 ounce and 1 kilogram sized coins. More recently, the Perth Mint has extended the range of coins to include both a platinum and a gold Kookaburra coin – both are only available in the 1/10 ounce size.
