The American Eagle gold coin was initially released in 1986 by the United States Mint. The coin is available in 1/10 Oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz and 1 oz sizes.
In addition to gold, the American Eagle series is also available in silver and platinum. The US Mint also produces the famous gold St. Gauden and American Buffalo gold coins.
