About the British Britannia Silver Coin
The British Britannia silver coin was first released in 1997, following on from the success of the gold Britannia coin which was released in 1987. The Britannia Series is released annually by the Royal Mint, which is responsible for manufacturing all of the UK's coinage in addition to their official bullion coins. The Britannia series is the official bullion coin series produced by the UK, and it is currently available in gold, silver, and platinum. The coin is primarily available in 1 Ounce sizes. Fractional coins are available, although they are less common.
Each coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II on the front, with the coin's face value of £2 GBP inscribed near the top. The reverse side of the coin features an image of Lady Britannia walking with a trident in one hand and a shield and an olive branch in the other. The shield bears the Union Jack on the front. The coin's purity of 999 fine and year of minting '2023' are inscribed around the outside of the coin.
