Design of the Perth Mint 2023 Silver Kangaroo Coin
The silver Perth Mint Kangaroo coin features a portrait image of Queen Elizabeth II on the front. The words 'Elizabeth II' and 'Australia' are written at the top of the coin. At the bottom of the coin is the coin's face value of $1 Australian Dollar. The reverse side of each coin features an image of a Red Kangaroo. At the top of the coin, the words 'Australian Kangaroo' are written. The bottom of the coin features the coin's weight of 1 Troy Ounce, its purity of 9999, and its metal type, which is silver. The coin's year of minting, 2023, is also located at the bottom of the coin.
These 2023 silver Kangaroos are some of the purest silver coins currently available today, with a fineness of 9999.
About the Kangaroo Series
The Kangaroo series was launched in 1986 as a gold nugget coin, and in 1988 the design was updated to feature an Australian red kangaroo. The coin has featured a Kangaroo ever since. Traditionally the Kangaroo coin was only available in gold, however in 2016 the coin was also released in silver and platinum. This was primarily due to the increase in the demand for investment bullion coins and as a response to the popularity of the gold Kangaroo. At that time, the Perth Mint featured other coins in silver, including the Koala and Kookaburra series, as well as the platinum platypus.
The silver Kangaroo, when it was released was priced to compete with the already popular silver Canadian Maple Leaf. Kangaroos are available individually, in tubes of 25 and in monster boxes of 250 coins.
