Design of the 1/2 Oz Gold Krugerrand

The front of each coin features an image of Paul Kruger, South Africa’s only president. Above his portrait the words ‘South Africa’ are written in both English and Afrikaans, the two official languages of South Africa. On the reverse side of the coin is the famous Springbok antelope which is native to South Africa. The top of each coin features the word ‘Krugerrand’, with the year of minting printed to the sides of the Springbok image. At the bottom is the coin’s metal type and it weight of 1/2 oz.

The coins are unique as they are amalgamated with copper, which gives them a slightly reddish tone compared to other gold coins, which are usually amalgamated with silver. These coins are 999 fine investment grade bullion coins.

The Krugerrand coin does not have a legal tender or face value, although it is still guaranteed by the government of South Africa.
