The 2023 1/4 Oz Maple Leaf
Each 1/4 Oz 2023 Gold Maple Leaf coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II on the font. Canada is still part of the commonwealth, and it is common for coinage issued within the commonwealth countries to feature a portrait of the Queen on it. The top of each coin features the words ‘Elizabeth II’ and the bottom features the coin’s face value of $10 CAD. The reverse side of each coin features a Canadian Maple Leaf, Canada’s national symbol, with the word ‘Canada’ inscribed at the top. These coins feature the same design each year, although some small changes are made annually. For example, they were originally released as a 999 fine gold coin, but the purity was increased to 9999 fine in 1982. Canada also has introduced holograms on the coins to prevent counterfeiting.
