Design of the 2022 Platinum Gibraltar Coin

The front of the 2022 Gibraltar Platinum coin features the word ‘Gibraltar’ at the top of the coin, with the coin’s face value of £5 located at the bottom of the coin. Gibraltar is a British overseas territory, and as such the territory uses Pounds Sterling as its official currency. The image in the centre of the coin is the official Gibraltar Coat of Arms. The official coat of arms features the Lion of England on one side and the Unicorn of Scotland on the other.

The reverse side of the coin features the famous Moorish Castle that is located in the territory. The castle, which was originally build for strategic purposes in the 11th century. To the left and the right of the castle’s image are the coin’s purity of 999.5 and its size of 1 tory ounce. The year of minting, 2022, is located at the bottom of the coin.

PAMP is quite renowned for its manufacturing of beautifully designed precious metals bars, however, it rarely manufactures legal tender coins. This is the second year that the government of Gibraltar has issued a platinum coin. However, the design is updated annually. 2021’s coin features a picture of one of Gibraltar’s famous Macaque Monkeys. these are the only Monkeys that exist in their native territory in Europe.
