These coins are unique in their shape, as they have the appearance of a silver ingot, yet, still have a face value.
Design of the East India Company Silver Bullion Bar
The center of the coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III. Below this portrait are the coin's weight of 10 ounces, and the coin's silver content. These coins have a purity of 999. The bottom of the coin features the words 'HM Queen Elizabeth II" or 'HM King Charles III'.
The reverse side of the coin features the official East India Company logo at the top, with the words 'The East India Company London' located below. An image of a ship at sea is located on the bottom of the bar, with the longitude and latitude lines of a compass filling the sky. The ship's sails feature the famous East India Company logo. These coins were released in 2021 and are available in either a 10 ounce or 250 gram size.
The island of St. Helena has a long history with the East India Company, as it was first given authority to build a port on the island in 1657. From that time on, St. Helena remained a sigfinicant port for the East India Company, which continued to use the island as a point at which to stock up on supplies, cargo and food. The East India Company was unique in that it was given the right to issue its own currency under Queen Elizabeth I, which allowed the company to trade abroad more easily.
