Design of the Platinum American Eagle Coin
The 2021 Platinum American Eagle coin features an image of the Statue of Liberty, with the word 'Liberty' written across the top. To the right of her face the year 2021 is inscribed, and just below that the words 'In God We Trust'. To the left of her image, in very small letters, is written 'E Pluribus Unum'.
The reverse side of the coin says 'United States of America' at the top, with the coin's purity of 9995 and the weight of 1 troy ounce inscribed to the right. The coin's face value of $100 USD is located at the bottom of the coin. These coins feature an image of a Bald Eagle in flight, with the sun rising behind him.
The coin features a ridged edge and is sold in a plastic slip, or in a tube, depending on the quantity purchased.
About the American Eagle Series
The American Eagle Series of coins is manufactured by the US Mint, and is the most popular series available from them. The Eagle is the only American coin to be manufactured in platinum. Currently, the American Eagle coin is available in gold, silver and platinum. The coin was released in palladium in 2017, but this was not continued in 2018. Platinum American Eagle coins have been released in fractional sizes, however, in 2021 they are currently only available in the 1 oz size.

A number of government mints issue platinum coins, and the American Eagle is among the most popular available. Other popular platinum coins include the platinum Maple Leaf, platinum Britannia and platinum Kangaroo. Platinum as an investment class has grown significantly in popularity and as a result many government mints have issued a platinum coin in the last four years. These include the Rand Refinery, the Austrian Mint and the Royal Mint.
