Description of the 2024 Somalian Elephant Silver Coin
The 2024 Silver Somalian Elephant coin is manufactured by the Bavarian State Mint on behalf of the Somali government. The front of each coin features the Somalian coat of arms. Central to the design is a shield, prominently featuring a single star. Below this shield, twin palm leaves and spears pointing outwards complement the design. Guarding the shield, two leopards stand poised on either side. The inscription 'Somali Republic' adorns the top of the coin, with the minting year, 2024, precisely engraved on both sides of the shield. The coin's legal tender value of 100 Shillings is located at the bottom of the coin.
The reverse side of the coin features two African Elephants playing together. Dominating the background is a radiant sun, with a lone Baobab tree standing tall in the distance. The top of the coin features the words 'African Wildlife'. This silver Elephant coin is a distinguished member of the African wildlife series which is released annually by Somalia. At the bottom of the coin, the word 'Elephant' is inscribed, as well as the coin's weight, purity, and metal specifications.
About the Somalian Elephant Coin Series
The Somalian Elephant series was first released in silver in 2004. 2024 marks the coin's 20th anniversary. This series is unique, since each year a new design appears on the front of the coin, adding to the series' numismatic appeal.
The African Wildlife series is manufactured by the Bavarian State Mint. The mint is the oldest business in Bavaria, and was originally founded in 1180AD. The mint is responsible for manufacturing gold and silver coins, as well as Euro coins on behalf of the European Union.
