The American Eagle silver bullion coin was first produced by the US Mint in 1986.

Although most American Eagle silver coins are still produced by the US Mint, there are several other authorized US mints, including the Philadelphia Mint, the San Francisco Mint and the West Point Mint which have produced American Eagle silver bullion coins in the past.

The front of each Silver American Eagle contains an image of Lady Liberty walking, and carrying an olive branch in her hand. The reverse side of the coin contains the weight, metal and face value of the coin.

The American Eagle silver coin is only produced in one size. In addition to silver American Eagles, the United States Mint also produces American Eagle coins in gold, platinum and palladium.

The United States Mint also produces the American Buffalo and St. Gauden coins, in gold only.
