Design of the Platinum Kangaroo Coin

The Pert Mint Platinum Kangaroo features an image of Queen Elizabeth II on the front, with the words ‘Elizabeth II’ and ‘Australia’ at the top of the coin. The coin’s face value of $100 AUD is located at the bottom of the coin. These coins have a legal tender value that is issued by the government of Australia through the Australian Currency Act which was enacted in 1965.

The reverse side of the coin features an image of a red kangaroo hopping. The top of the coin says ‘Australian Kangaroo’, and the bottom of the coin features its year of minting, 2022, its size of 1 oz, and its purity of 9995 platinum. There is a small P to the right of the Kangaroo, which is a security measure to prevent against counterfeiting of the coin.

The Perth Mint Kangaroo Series

The Perth Mint Kangaroo series was first launched in the 1980s in gold. The coin was first launched as a gold ‘Nugget’ coin, but two years later, in 1988, this design was updated to a gold Kangaroo image. The coin has been a huge success, and was launched in silver in 2016 and in platinum in 2017. Unlike the gold and silver kangaroo coins, the platinum Kangaroo features the same image of a Red Kangaroo each year.

The Perth Mint also releases its Lunar series of coins in platinum. Both are available as 1 Ounce coins only. The platinum Kangaroo is very popular with platinum investors, and these coins are available individually and in multiples of 20 for larger investors.
