2022 Gold Kangaroo Coin Design
Each 2022 Gold Australian Kangaroo 1 Ounce gold coin features a portrait image of Queen Elizabeth II on the front. The words ‘Elizabeth II” and ‘Australia’ are written at the top of the coin around the image of the Queen. The portrait of the Queen depicted was designed by Jody Clark, and it is the official effigy of the Queen to be used on coinage. This effigy of the Queen is also used on all official coinage in Australia. At the bottom of the coin is its face value of $100 Australian Dollars.
The reverse side of the coin features an image of two Australian Red Kangaroos, a mother, and her joey, hopping in the desert. At the top of the coin, the word ‘Kangaroo’ is written. On the left side of the coin is its year of minting, 2022, its size, which is 1 Troy Ounce, and its purity of 9999.
The History of the Gold Kangaroo Coin
The Perth Mint first launched the gold Nugget coin, in 1986 to celebrate the history of Australia’s bullion mining industry. After all, it was in Australia that the largest gold nugget ever found was located. However, in 1989 the Mint decided to go in a different direction and replaced the gold nugget design with the Kangaroo. It is for this reason that the Kangaroo gold coin is also colloquially referred to as the gold nugget coin.
The Perth Mint Gold Kangaroo series is the most popular series available from Mint and is currently available in gold, silver, and platinum. Gold Kangaroo coins are available in a wide range of sizes, from 1/20 oz up to 1 Kilogram. In fact, it is the only mint in the world to regularly manufacture a 1 Kilogram gold coin available to investors. One unique feature of the Kangaroo series is that, unlike most gold coins available, the design is updated each year. Although the design of the Queen remains the same, the design of the Kangaroo changes annually. This makes these coins particularly popular with collectors, who aim to collect the design from each year.
Perth Mint Bullion Products
The Perth Mint, like the Royal Canadian Mint, has been manufacturing bullion coins for over 150 years and was initially set up by the Royal Mint in order to manufacture gold Sovereigns, which were used worldwide for trade. However, the mint obtained independence from the Royal Mint when Australia gained independence. Today the Perth Mint manufactures all official Australian coinage as well as its precious metals coins.
